Ok, I admit it, I'm obsessed with this band. Ever since a friend of mine sent me a mix tape of The Magnetic Fields and other side projects(Future Bible Heroes, The Gothic Archies, and The 6ths) I've been hooked. It's like a drug really, once you get turned on to them you want EVERYONE to hear them. I think they really strike a chord in your soul in such a way that other bands pale in comparison. You can't really describe the music accurately. I've heard descriptions from Joy Division bubblegum to Gothic Pop. Stephin's voice is like a cross between Ian Curtis, Frank Sinatra and Leonard Cohen. The music varies from album to album. Some albums have a crunchy bubblegum pop sadness sound, while Charm of The Highway Strip takes a dive into the countryesque realm. Fear not, I don't mean country in the sense of Garth Brooks. I'd recomend buying "Get Lost" first. I don't know why, it just seems to be a good hook for newcomers. They just released an amazing 3 cd set called 69 Love Songs.
